Centreville Bank Awards $60,000 in Scholarships to 15 Students

“Centreville Bank is committed to helping graduating high school students in communities we serve create progress through entrepreneurship, advocacy, volunteerism and community service,” said Paola Fernandez, Senior Vice President of Community Development. “These students have demonstrated they are taking purposeful actions to make their communities better. We are pleased to be able to support them as they exemplify behaviors that align with the bank’s commitment to bettering the communities we serve.”
The Future Business Leaders scholarship is for high school recipients that demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and aspire to be impactful business leaders. The 2024 winners of this scholarship will each receive $5,000:
- Claire Beck of The Woodstock Academy, (CT) attending the University of Connecticut
- Tate Gordon of Robert E Fitch High School, (CT) attending the University of Connecticut
- Angel Bonga of The Met School, (RI) attending the University of Rhode Island
The Emerging Community Leader scholarship recognizes students that uplift and support the community through acts of leadership, advocacy, and volunteerism. These students, who will each receive a $5,000 scholarship are nominated by peers, teachers, guidance counselors, mentors, or any other non-family individual:
- Alistair Haglund of Waterford High School (CT) attending the University of Austin
- Caroline Bonga of The Met School (RI) attending Johnson and Wales University
- Kylie Hoffman of Chariho High School (RI) attending Vanderbilt University
Additionally, Centreville Bank expanded the Robert O. Pare scholarship that it has been offering since 2018. This scholarship recognizes students who are dedicated to making a difference through community service. The scholarship’s namesake honors Robert O. Pare who served Centreville Bank for 55 years and was instrumental in its success. Previously this scholarship was awarded to two (2) students, but starting in 2024, three (3) recipients will each be awarded a $5,000 Robert O. Pare scholarship. The winners are:
- Clare O'Shea Flaherty of The Prout School (RI) attending Dartmouth College
- Jully Myrthil of Village Green Virtual Charter, attending Bentley University
- Julia Coyle of The Woodstock Academy, (CT) attending Connecticut College
Additionally, the bank is awarding $15,000 in scholarships to children of Centreville Bank employees. These students will each receive $2,500 scholarships:
- Izabella Robbins of Killingly High (CT) attending Wentworth Institute of Technology
- Matthew DeShiro of Mansfield High School (MA) attending Merrimack College
- Mason Tucker of Attleboro High School (MA) attending University of Alabama
- Bruce Angelini of Tollgate High School (RI) attending Johnson and Wales University
- Kelsey Mullens of Jacqueline M Walsh School for the Arts (RI) attending Emerson College
- Logan Reed of Cranston West High (RI) attending Nova Southeastern University
Applications and nominations are reviewed by a selection committee and finalists are chosen by the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation Board of Directors each Spring.
