to 15 Organizations Throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island

(West Warwick, RI) March 8, 2023 – Harold M. Horvat, Centreville Bank president, CEO and chairman, today announced that the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation has awarded $374,500 in funding to 15 organizations throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island. The grants are part of the Foundation’s Q4 2022 donation cycle.
This final round of 2022 charitable giving by the Foundation brings its total grants awarded to $1.3 million for the year, the largest annual giving amount in bank history and the third year in a row surpassing the million-dollar milestone. Funds supported a total of 236 organizations across Connecticut and Rhode Island. The Foundation’s 2022 year in review report can be viewed here.
“Centreville Bank is proud to support these vital organizations doing amazing work throughout Rhode Island and Eastern Connecticut,” said Horvat. “We have a shared mission to support the communities we serve and we’re proud that we’ve been able to provide over $1.3 million this past year to such indispensable institutions as they work to combat food insecurity and homelessness, impact education and improve overall health and wellness.”
Included in this round of community support is a $40,000 grant to Read To Grow (Branford). The grant will be used to support and expand the reach of the Read To Grow Bookmobile, which promotes literacy for children from birth and provides free books to children and their families.

- Madonna Place (Norwich) – The $5,000 grant will go toward the Family Support Center Program.
- Martin House, Inc. (Norwich) – The $5,000 grant will support the Food Security program and help provide daily meals and temporary shelter for those experiencing homelessness.
- Operation Fuel (Hartford) – The $2,000 donation will help provide emergency energy assistance for those in need.
- Thames River Community Service, Inc. (Norwich) – The $5,000 grant will support those experiencing homelessness and the organization’s Apartment Turnover and Supplies Program.
- Thames Valley Council for Community Action, Inc. (New London) – The $2,500 grant will go toward the Senior Nutrition Program, which serves Eastern Connecticut residents ages 60 and older.
Rhode Island organizations receiving fourth quarter grants are:
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County – The $10,000 in funding will be used to support academic and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programming for Middletown students ages 5-12.
- Day One (Providence) – The $5,000 grant will be used help provide basic needs for victims of sexual and domestic violence.
- Junior Achievement of Rhode Island (Warwick) – The $5,000 grant will support financial literacy programming for RI youth in urban communities.
- North Kingstown Food Pantry – The $5,000 grant will support the Vacation Nutrition Program.
- Northern RI Food Pantry (Cumberland) – The $5,000 grant will be used to help add a second day of food distribution for clients in Northern Rhode Island.
- Reach Out and Read of Rhode Island (Providence) – $5,000 in funding will go toward partnerships with pediatricians to prepare young children for academic and lifelong success by incorporating books into every well visit.
- Sophia Academy (Providence) – The $20,000 grant will go toward student scholarships.
- Year Up RI (Providence) – The $10,000 grant will support the job training program.
