Centreville Bank Employees Pay It Forward, Helping Fuel Meals on Wheels Deliveries Across Rhode Island

West Warwick, RI (July 20, 2026) — A program designed to help Centreville Bank employees navigate rising fuel costs has been transformed into a meaningful act of community support.
As part of the Bank's Fuel Up Friday’s initiative, Centreville Bank provided employees with $100 gas gift cards throughout the month of June to help ease the burden of higher fuel costs and support employees as they headed into the busy summer season. Employees were also given the option to donate their gift card to Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island.
Approximately 10% of Centreville Bank’s 292 employees chose to pay it forward, donating their gas cards to Meals on Wheels. The collective contribution is expected to help fuel the organization's fleet of delivery vehicles for an entire month, supporting the delivery of meals and wellness checks to seniors across Rhode Island.
"Fuel Up Fridays was created as a way to support our employees at a time when rising gas prices were impacting household budgets," said Josh Varone, Chief Human Resources Officer at Centreville Bank. "What makes this story so special is that a number of our employees took that act of support and turned it into something even greater. Their generosity will help Meals on Wheels continue delivering meals, wellness checks and peace of mind to seniors throughout our state. It's a powerful example of our culture in action and what it means to us to be an employer of choice.”
Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island serves thousands of older adults each year, helping them remain safe, healthy and independent in their own homes through meal delivery and regular wellness visits.
"On behalf of Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island, we are incredibly grateful to Centreville Bank and its employees for this generous donation," said Amy Garofalo, Director of External Affairs and Mission Advancement at Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island. "Transportation is essential to everything we do. Knowing these donations will help fuel our delivery fleet for a month means we can continue reaching seniors who depend on us every day. This gift will have a lasting impact on the people we serve."
The initiative reflects Centreville Bank's ongoing commitment to supporting both its employees and the communities it serves. What began as an employee appreciation effort ultimately became an opportunity to extend that support beyond the workplace and into communities across Rhode Island.
