Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation Highlights VITA Tax Assistance in First Round of 2026 Community Grants
Funding supported free tax preparation through United Way of Rhode Island alongside investments in housing, education, and health services.
West Warwick, RI (April 13, 2026) -- The Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation has awarded charitable grants to 27 nonprofit organizations delivering essential services across Rhode Island and eastern Connecticut, including affordable housing and homeownership programs, workforce development and youth education, healthcare access, food security, and financial stability initiatives.
A key focus of this grant cycle is economic stability, including a $50,000 grant to the United Way of Rhode Island to support the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, an IRS supported initiative that provides free, trusted tax preparation services for eligible individuals and families.
Through its partnership with United Way of Rhode Island, Centreville Bank helped bring VITA tax preparation sites directly into local communities, removing barriers that can prevent individuals from filing taxes or claiming the refunds and credits they have earned.
“This work is about community partnerships and access,” said Paola Fonseca-Fernandez, Senior Vice President of Community Development at Centreville Bank. “By teaming up with organizations and the VITA Coalition, we were able to bring services directly into the community, helping individuals and families navigate tax season with confidence and support.”
In the first round of funding this year, the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation’s 2026 grants supported a broad range of community‑based programs, including affordable housing and homeownership preparation; youth development and mentoring; workforce training and career readiness; emergency shelter, food access, and basic needs assistance. These investments reflect the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening local communities by supporting organizations with measurable impact.
